I've missed posting, so I'm getting back into the swing of things and have started on a couple of pieces I've been wanting to yammer on about. In the meantime, seeing this color photo of Gene Tierney (with Cheetah friend) has me all abuzz. I won't call this "Photo of the Day", that's Millie's feature...
Gene is one of my absolutely favorite actresses of the Golden Era. LOVE her in Laura! I read her autobiography and it's quite good - but oh, the battle she had with mental illness.
ReplyDeleteGene's great-- thanks for sharing the picture. :)
ReplyDeleteHas anyone read The Mirror Crack'd?
I don't think anyone would consider Tierney a great actress, although she could rise to the occasion when required. But if there was ever a more beautiful actress of the studio era, I can't think of her. Oddly, for me she was even more stunning in black-and-white than in color. Has anyone seen her in "The Mating Season"? She's winsome and charming and never looked lovelier (especially in shorts and halter-top). I didn't see "The Mirror Cracked" (the British version with Claire Bloom) until after I'd read Oleg Cassini's (her ex-husband's) autobiography, but it was clear the actress in that Christie work was based on Tierney's sad experience.
ReplyDeleteI have always loved this photo! Gene looks so gorgeous! And her adorable overbite is rather obvious too!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the shout-out!
-Millie!
Tierney is certainly beautiful and she has had some interesting films in her career. along with "Laura", I am especially fond of "Where the sidewalk Ends", "Night and the City", and "Leave Her to "Heaven."
ReplyDeleteR.D. - I have not seen "The Mating Game" but after reading some info on IMDB, it sounds interesting.
